Dude. I'm tired.

Mon Jun 29, 2009, 2:08 PM
I haven't updated this in a long while due to my away at a college program.

I would like to say, the program was a good social and academic experience. College sucks, it's hard, and you have to focus a lot. I lost a lot of sleep working on the assignments and reading. I took an engineering class, so we did some fun stuff like programming robots as our final projects and electronics. The four professors do a lot of lecturing.

The Human Event class, in the afternoon, was reading each night and discussing it in class the day after. I thought this class was very fun, because I would be able to talk a bit and I liked the stuff we read. They were interesting. It sucks only when you were tired and wanted to fall asleep. Study hall was too short, and I couldn't finish my homework in that time. The presentations were mostly boring and I kept dozing off but I couldn't. Some were very interesting, and kept me awake and attentive though.

The food gets repetitive, but it's better than high school fare. The residential aspect of it is annoying. I did not bond with my roommate as much as I would have liked to. She's very messy and would leave her stuff on my table and dresser in addition to hers. I did not get along well at all with my suitemate, I thought she was very disrespectful in the way she talks to me. The toilet got jammed twice. I also don't like all the parties they were hosting after curfew.

The field trips were like presentations. The first field trip day was boring. I kept falling asleep along this trip. The second field trip day was more interesting, but again I think I got so tired because we walked like all day on these tours. We visited a nuclear power plant and other campuses.

In the beginning, I had nobody to talk to and would keep to myself. I didn't know anyone there. Then, progressively it got better as I found someone who were both friendly to me and I to them. So I hung out with them. Then, it got easier for me because now I had some friends yay. I still didn't go outside my room during personal time because I thought it would be too awkward for me. The first night was icebreakers. I think this helped a bit.

I said three things a lot during these three weeks. "Awkward." "It's alright." and "I don't know." The second week was decent, but there had been a lot of gossip so by the end of the week, I was feeling a lot of different emotions. Partially on the quality of the people there and a bit of something else. Though I will say how interesting it is, that you can bond with these people way faster.

Weekend I was feeling better. Third week was awesome. I had a bit of internal conflict, but then I was alright if not fantastic on Thursday. It was the last day of class, and even though I sat in my chair thinking and scratching my head for two hours on the engineering homework.. trying to think of a robot that would better the world.. I liked that day. We watched Donnie Darko, and there was a dance party on the first floor which I did not know about and would have wanted to go but it didn't matter cause I didn't know until it was over. Curfew got extended to midnight.

The last day was sad. It had sprinkled a little yesterday, and the rain made me happy. Most people pulled off an all-nighter but I went to bed at two. We spent the day reflecting on the program and a little bit napping and asking our Resident Advisers questions. After that, we packed and came back for the closing reception to which we got certificates and hugged everyone bye. We did a group photo on stairs, which was stupid because the people at the top blocked everybody at the bottom. I didn't want to leave my friends, but I did want to leave the stress of college.

Many lived in the capital, and were very far away from where I lived. I've tanned a lot. My sunglasses, I wore for some time, made my skin around the eyes a little lighter but they broke.. the lens popped out and the frame got bent while in my case in my purse in my backpack. I bought a lot of Altoids and gum.. I miss my awesome friends.
